Have you heard about Summerville's history? The unofficial town motto — "The Flower Town in the Pines" — doubles as a window into her past. That storied saga stretches back to 1785, just after the American Revolution. During muggy summer months, Charlestonians headed for higher elevation, hoping to escape the heat, insects, and swamp fevers pervasive in coastal areas. They formed a tiny colony on a pine-forested ridge, aptly calling it Pineland Village. That soon evolved to "Summerville," which became an official town in 1847. Today, more than 46,000 people call Summerville home. That includes SAS, which sits on Main Street between Eva's restaurant (yum) and Lush Language beauty spa (ooh la la).
